This week we celebrate everything that makes our local governments wonderful. From roads, school buses, clean water and parks; to our local officials and our first responders – fire, police and EMS workers and everyone in between who works hard for their local communities.

Last year during Local Government Week, Missouri Municipal League Communications Specialist Laura Holloway wrote in a guest blog for LAGERS Bloggers that “we are so thankful for the local government officials and employees who work tirelessly for a better quality of life for their neighbors, family and community members they may never even meet.” A very true statement!

That’s why LAGERS has launched our Local Government Hero Award this year. We want to GOV Hero Award logorecognize those who work tirelessly for their communities every day to make them better. We just went through our nomination phase, and the nominations are from folks all over the state who were recommended by their coworkers for this award based on their dedication to their work and communities.

Keep watching our blog and social media channels, as we will be featuring our nominees so that you can get to know them while our committee narrows down the pool to three finalists. At our June board meeting, the LAGERS Board of Directors will choose the winner who will join us at our annual meeting in Springfield this fall.

We join Missouri Municipal League, and all the sponsors of Local Government Week, in celebrating ALL local government heroes!. Thanks for all you do.
