LAGERS Seeking to Add Retiree Seat to Board of Trustees

Retiree Resource: Winter 2024

We are excited to share that LAGERS has pre-filed legislation for the 2024 session seeking to add a Retiree Trustee to the LAGERS Board. This initiative, which is backed by unanimous approval of the LAGERS Board, aligns with our ongoing commitment to enhance and modernize best practices in system governance.

As part of our efforts, LAGERS conducted a comprehensive review of the board’s composition and election practices, identifying areas for improvement to better serve our growing membership.

“As the LAGERS membership has grown over the years, so has our retiree population. We think a retiree trustee will bring an important perspective to the boardroom,” says Executive Director Bill Betts.

If passed, the proposed legislation would establish the system’s first-ever Retiree Trustee with a term beginning January 1, 2025. The new trustee would replace one of three Employer Trustee seats on the board.

Stay tuned for more information regarding how this will impact our retirees if approved by the legislature! Our dedicated legislative team represents LAGERS at the Capitol each session, ensuring we maintain our ability to best serve members and promote a secure financial future.
