Three Reasons Why You Should Attend LAGERS Legislative Day

Legislative Day

On March 18th, LAGERS will be hosting our 3rd Annual Legislative Day.  While Legislative Day is a great opportunity for members and retirees to help advocate on behalf of their retirement system, there are many great reason why you don’t want to miss out on this year’s event!  Here are just a few:

Experience History

Call me a nerd, but one of the best parts of any legislative day is the opportunity to experience and be a part of history.  Whether you are a seasoned advocacy pro hoping to help shape LAGERS’ future laws, or visiting the capitol for the very first time, attending Legislative Day not only gives attendees the chance to be a part of our democratic processes, but also to do so in one of the most beautiful and historic capitol buildings and capital cities in the nation. Ever heard of Thomas Hart Benton, James Earle Fraser, or Sir Frank Brangwyn? – All have numerous works of art throughout the building.  Or check out one of Missouri’s state parks located on the first floor of the building, stroll through the Lewis and Clark and Veterans memorials, or explore the Whispering Gallery in the rotunda if you dare!

Showcase Public Service

Outside of advocating for any specific policies, one of, if not the, most important parts of Legislative Day is the opportunity to showcase the value of public service.  The legislature spends a fair amount of timing talking about retirement benefits, but LAGERS firmly believes that we are so much more than just a benefit vendor.  We represent a unique and diverse membership of public servants who day in and day out keep every community in this state running!  You are the face of local government and we love showcasing all of the amazing work our members do!

Safeguard your Future Retirement Security

One of the residual effects of our year in, year out advocacy efforts is a lasting sense of importance in the legislature for safeguarding the future retirement security of Missouri’s local government workers.  This helps protect our system from outside threats and attacks that have and will likely continue into the future.  When your financial future is secure, you can be more focused today on doing great work for your community, and once you have given a lifetime to public service, you should be able to retire with peace of mind that your benefit will always be there for you!  Protecting this starts with you, so mark your calendars for March 18th.  We’re excited to see you there!
