It’s October, which means we’re quickly approaching the LAGERS’ Annual Meeting. The annual meeting is a great place to interface with LAGERS’ board and staff, learn more about your LAGERS’ benefit and network with your fellow local government workers. Since we are so close, I wanted to share with you the three W’s for this year’s meeting.

When

This year’s annual meeting is being held on October 29th and 30th with the majority of the agenda occurring on Friday, October 30th.

Where

The location of the meeting will be entirely in your hands! We will be hosting our normal in-person meeting at the Margaritaville Lake Resort, Lake of the Ozarks with the added option to attend virtually. Either way you choose to attend, you will be able to fully participate in the meeting.

This year’s meeting will focus primarily on our business meeting and system updates. If you’ve enjoyed our Thursday educational sessions in the past, please note our Thursday agenda focuses primarily on caucuses, but we have many online learning opportunities in the upcoming months!

Those attending virtually will be able to see the presenter and presentation and ask questions of the presenter that will be moderated to the speakers by LAGERS staff. You will also be able to make motions during the business meeting through the online interface, and submit votes for the LAGERS board election through a third party balloting platform. Once registered, you’ll receive more information about the virtual meeting, elections, and other relevant information. We are confident that attending virtually will be abundantly educational and allow you to fully participate.

Why

The LAGERS Annual Meeting occurs for the purposes of electing the LAGERS Board of Trustees. The LAGERS Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the direction of your retirement system. For more details about the role of the board, read this blog by LAGERS Legislative & Communications Coordinator, Elizabeth Althoff.

In a nutshell, those who attend the LAGERS Annual Meeting as voting delegates are charged with the responsibility of electing board members who they believe will ensure the system is well managed and strongly positioned for the future.

Each of LAGERS’ participating subdivisions can send one member delegate and one employer delegate. The member delegate is elected by their coworkers and may vote in the member trustee election. The employer delegate should be a member of the subdivision’s governing body and may participate in the employer trustee election. However, the governing body may appoint an employee to attend and vote in their absence.

Although, this year’s annual meeting will look different than in years past, it will be just as important and informational. Registration information can be found on the LAGERS website. I look forward to seeing you either in person, or virtually!
