People don’t always know the answer to the question,”Who can participate in LAGERS?” Since LAGERS is a defined benefit pension plan and not based on an account balance, certain criteria have to be met in order for you to be able to participate in the plan.
If your employer has elected to join LAGERS, you must
1. Work in a LAGERS covered department; and
2.Work the required number of hours annually.

Once you fill these requirements, all that needs to be done on your part is to become vested (5 years of service in the LAGERS system) and reach your retirement age and you’re going to get a lifetime monthly benefit from LAGERS.
