During this holiday season, it seems like I’m always thinking about giving to my kids, spouse, parents and other loved ones. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that because that one of the best parts about this time of year. But, when’s the last time you thought about giving your self a present?
The other day, I was thinking about how my list to Santa has changed over the years. These days, I am asking for things like a new garage door opener, lighting fixtures, or other items my family needs for our home. The more I thought about it, the more I became enamored with giving myself a present that I will appreciate for longer than a year or two.
One thing I know for sure I will appreciate for many years to come will be financial independence, and the best to way to accomplish this is by giving a gift to my future self. In other words, if I save money or pay off debt today, my future self will be given the wonderful present of a financial independence.
So, I know this time of year we’re mostly giving gifts to our loved ones, as it should be. But while you’re at it, you may want to think about giving your future self a present of financial security by taking small steps today and in 2019.
