Every year in October, LAGERS hosts its Annual Meeting, where member and employer delegates gather to elect open seats on the Board of Trustees. Each LAGERS employer can send one member delegate and one employer delegate to vote, and as many non-voting delegates as they wish.
Sending voting delegates gives both employers and members an opportunity to help shape the future of the LAGERS retirement system and ensure their voices are heard. This year’s election will take place Friday, Oct. 30, in Springfield, Mo.
The LAGERS Board of Trustees is made up of three elected member trustees, three elected employer trustees and one appointed citizen trustee. The board meets quarterly to ensure LAGERS is appropriately governed and managed.
This year, delegates will vote to fill two open seats: one member trustee seat and one employer trustee seat.
How to Elect a Member Delegate
The member delegate must be an active LAGERS member elected by their peers. The election must allow all active members of the employer to participate through a secret ballot.
- Solicit interest. Any LAGERS member who wishes to serve as a member delegate may express their desire to attend the LAGERS Annual Meeting as their employer’s member delegate.
- Hold an election. Each employer must, by secret ballot, allow all LAGERS-covered employees to vote for a member delegate. A simple majority wins. It is important to complete the election before registering for the LAGERS Annual Meeting. An employer may have only one member delegate.
- Register and certify your delegate. An employer official needs to register and certify the member delegate. The certifying official cannot be the member delegate.
