The Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) is excited to announce that Penny Thomas, education and outreach specialist, has earned her Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designation.
The Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designation is a rigorous course created to further educate those working with defined contribution and defined benefit plans or those involved with the management of retirement plan assets.

“Coming from a background in secondary education and English literature, the financial world was unfamiliar territory,” Penny said. “But I pursued the Retirement Plans Associate designation to better understand and support the members I serve.”
To earn the credential, individuals must complete three comprehensive courses and pass exams covering the most current and practical retirement plan knowledge.
“Although the learning curve was steep, every challenge brought me closer to the purpose I’ve found in this work: helping those who serve Missouri’s communities prepare for a secure retirement,” Penny said. “It’s my way of giving back.”
LAGERS is proud to support Penny’s commitment to ongoing professional growth, which reflects her dedication to providing an exceptional experience for both members and employers.
