As summer and seasonal hiring approaches, you may have questions about whether you are covered by LAGERS benefits.
Whether you qualify for LAGERS coverage depends on your position and the annual hours requirement your employer selected for coverage. This requirement is a one-time election made when your employer joined LAGERS and is set at one of the following:
- 1,500 hours
- 1,250 hours
- 1,000 hours
If you will work at or above your employer’s annual hour requirement, your position qualifies for LAGERS coverage.
For example, if your employer selected a 1,500-hour requirement, working approximately 30 hours per week may meet the threshold for coverage. If your employer has a 1,250-hour requirement, working approximately 25 hours per week may meet the threshold for coverage. If your employer selected a 1,000-hour requirement, working approximately 20 hours per week may meet the threshold for coverage.
It’s important to understand whether your seasonal or temporary position is intended to remain non-covered in LAGERS. If you are unsure whether your position is intended to be covered or non-covered, reach out to your employer’s human resources department to verify the number of hours you will be working and the annual hours requirement your employer selected for coverage.
