LAGERS retirees have several different options for working after they retire. If a retiree decides to return to work, he or she should be aware of how it may affect their current LAGERS retirement benefit.
Before the retiree may re-employ with a different LAGERS employer, he or she must have one calendar month break in employment. Once the retiree has been re-employed for 12 consecutive months, he or she would be vested and eligible for an additional monthly benefit upon the second retirement.
He or she re-employs full time with an employer from which he or she is currently receiving a benefit. According to state law, a LAGERS member may not be earning a benefit from the same employer from which he or she is currently drawing a benefit. If this were to happen:
