Local Love Spread Throughout Missouri

Throughout the month of July, LAGERS retirees from across the state showcased their local love by telling us about some of their favorite local business! The response was great! We received some wonderful pictures and stories about some of our retirees’ favorite shops and products. Three winners were chosen at random to receive a prize basket full of Missouri made goodies.

LAGERS pays out over $300 million dollars every year to retirees living in Missouri, and those dollars go straight back into your local economy! We’ve loved seeing all the great ways LAGERS retirees support local business in Missouri!  In case you missed it, here were our three winners from the LAGERS Loves Local photo contest:

Victor Weir – Lebanon, MOBob and Vic-1

“I am very serious about my ice cream! We have the best ice cream shop here in Lebanon, Mo. Mid-Town Malt Shoppe has extreme shakes and I try out all of them!”

Victor is one of 122 LAGERS retirees living in Lebanon, MO. A retiree of the Waynesville police department, Victor is using his retirement dollars to support his favorite local business, Mid-Town Malt Shoppe. He tells us they have the best shakes and has made it his mission to try them all!! 

The community of Lebanon sees more than $1.1 million dollars paid to LAGERS retirees, like Victor, each year.

Sheron Gardner – St. Joseph, MOSheron Gardner Basket 2

“Twilight gardens in St Joseph  made a pagoda for us in a antique color. We have done business with them before and he is very proud of his work and yet at a very affordable price.”

Sheron is one of 536 retirees living in St. Joseph, MO. A retiree of Buchannan County, Sheron is using her retirement income to support local businesses like Twilight Gardens

While it may not look like your typical brick and mortar store, Sheron says Twilight Gardens is a favorite or hers where she has purchased several custom statuary pieces over the years! 

Local business in St. Joseph enjoy the effects of retiree spending, like Sheron’s, to the tune of $7.9 million dollars annually!

“Geisert Farms has a great selection of vegetables and herbs. Todd Geisert also sells vegetables in season and pork products year round. He is located in Washington.”

Gail is enjoying her retirement as one of 122 LAGERS retirees in Washington, MO. She uses her retirement income, which she earned after more than 15 years of service with St. Charles County, to support local businesses in Washington like Geisert Farms. 

Gail loves picking up vegetable and herbs plants for her garden and also says owner Todd Geisert sells locally produced pork year round! Geisert Farms is one of many local businesses in the Washington area that enjoys the economic benefits of the nearly $2 million dollars in annual benefit payments LAGERS makes each year.
