RETIREMENT AGES. . .
LAGERS has several retirement ages that are important:
Minimum Service Retirement Age (normal retirement age) is the age that an employee can retire and begin receiving an unreduced benefit.
General Employees = Age 60
Fire Fighters and Police Officers = Age 55
There is a provision for an Early Retirement Age that allows an active member to receive an actuarially reduced retirement amount at an earlier age. (This is discussed in more detail in the Early Retirement Section)
General Employees = From age 55 to age 60
Fire Fighters and Police Officers = From age 50 to age 55
An alternate unreduced retirement provision (if elected by political subdivision) is available based on age and service totaling 80. There is no mandatory retirement age in the LAGERS law.
