Becoming a Member of LAGERS: The Process to Join the System
There are several steps a subdivision must complete before becoming a member:
1. Subdivision must receive an Initial Actuarial Valuation (Cost Study) from LAGERS actuary.
2. The valuation must be public information for at least 45 calendar days.
3. The subdivision's governing body may then pass an ordinance / resolution to become a member of LAGERS.
4. LAGERS must receive a copy of the ordinance / resolution within 10 days after it has passed.
This page will provide information on completing the first step of this process.
The Initial Actuarial Valuation (Cost Study) is a 35-40 page booklet that will contain employer contribution rates for all LAGERS benefit programs. The rates are unique for each subdivision because the figures are based on the subdivision's specific employee group. Receiving a valuation does not obligate a subdivision to join, it is only the first step in the membership process - which is required by law.
To request a cost study, a subdivision must complete a Personnel Data Form by filling in information about all of the subdivision's full time employees. You may also request an Excel version of this form by e-mailing jkempker@molagers.org.
Because LAGERS' actuary prepares the valuation, there is a cost for this request. A fee schedule is included with the Personnel Data Form. Please do not send payment to LAGERS, our actuary will bill the subdivision. This request must be made by a authorized representative of the employer.
When the form is complete, please send to:
